In Kobayashi’s artwork “Algiz Betty”, the artist presents a unique fusion of the iconic character Betty Boop with the ancient runic symbol Algiz. This piece portrays Betty Boop in a dynamic pose that mirrors the shape of the Algiz rune (ᛉ), traditionally associated with protection, defense, and spiritual connection.
The Algiz rune, also known as Elhaz, resembles outstretched arms or elk antlers. It symbolizes protection, spiritual awareness, and a link to the divine. In Norse mythology, Algiz is often connected to the god Heimdall, the vigilant guardian of the Bifrost bridge, who watches over Asgard against threats.
By blending the character of Betty Boop with the Algiz rune, Kobayashi creates a work that intertwines modern culture with ancient symbolism, highlighting timeless themes of protection and spiritual connection.
